Safety is Paramount in the High Seas

Carnival Cruise Lines will be implementing a new Safety Briefing, formerly referred to as the “Boat Drill”. The new Safety Briefing will be rolled out throughout the fleet by the end of 2009.

According to SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea), Chapter III, Regulations 19.2.2. and 19.2.3, whenever new passengers embark, a passenger Safety Briefing shall be given immediately before sailing or immediately after sailing. Passengers shall be instructed in the use of the lifejackets and the action to take in an emergency.

Therefore, when the signal for the Safety Briefing blares out, guests will no longer be required to go to their stateroom to collect their lifejackets. They will proceed directly to their assigned muster station from their location at that time.

The letter of the muster station to which the guest is assigned (according to stateroom number) is printed on the left bottom corner of the Guest’s Sail & Sign card. The guest will need to have the Sail & Sign card in hand during the Safety Briefing.

During the Safety Briefing, the Evacuation Personnel will be visible to all guests and demonstrate  how to wear a lifejacket.

This new procedure will improve the guest’s experience and prevent unnecessary accidents due to hanging strings from the lifejackets as well as heat exhaustion at the muster stations during summer-type weather.

H1N1 Look-Out

Carnival Cruise Lines enforces the highest of standards for sanitation on all of our ships to prevent the spread of infectious diseases, including the H1N1 Influenza Virus.

In addition to an aggressive protocol to help prevent the introduction and/or spread of infectious diseases, we have well-trained medical staff and expansive reporting capabilities on board. Working with U.S. public health officials in the CDC’s Vessel Sanitation Program, Carnival has extensive procedures in place that are extremely effective in maintaining a healthy environment on our vessels.

All guests and embarking crew are given a pre-boarding health questionnaire and medical staff will be available to conduct additional screening of guests, crew and visitors as necessary. Anyone who has an illness of international public health concern will not be permitted to sail.

Our onboard medical centers also have supplies of antiviral medications, personal protective equipment and appropriate diagnostic test kits, as recommended by the CDC. Information on good hygiene practices, particularly as it relates to hand-washing, the most effective way to prevent the spread of disease, is also provided to guests and promoted on in-cabin televisions.

Fun Zone

Carnival, in keeping with its family oriented theme has implemented the first of it’s kind “The Fun Zone”- children’s play area. Now open in the port of Miami cruise terminal-upper level. So for kids, the fun begins at the port.

Mascots greet children on some family cruises. Here Freddy has a hug for kids on Carnival Liberty.

A great idea for kids and parents to have fun while waiting to board.

There will be plenty of toys and games to go around:

  • Coloring books
  • Indoor play ground
  • Videogames
  • Board games
  • and lots more….

The same concept will be implemented to other year-round homeports in the near future.

Baking with Pride

The Carnival Pride  is hitting Hollywood. Well, almost. The ship is set to star in an upcoming episode of the Food Network’s hit reality series “Ace of Cakes.” Premiering Thursday, Sept. 17, at 10:p.m. ET/PT, featuring Chef Duff Goldman presenting a ship shaped cake to Capt. Alessandro Galotto.

Carnival Pride operates cruises year-round from Baltimore, MD., also home to Goldman’s Charm City Cakes bakery, where Cheff Duff and his crew of culinary experts use all kinds of tools to construct the most elaborate creations imaginable.

“Food Network is one of the most popular channels on television and is seen in over 90 million households each week,” said Jim Berra, chief marketing officer for Carnival Cruise Lines. “Having Carnival’s Baltimore connection highlighted on such a widely watched national broadcast enables us to have our cake and eat it, too, as it were.”

Incredible details from the funnel to the signal flags, to the waterslide. The Pride in miniature. The cake measured two feet long.

Dream Contest Finalists

http://www.contestformoms.com/archives/daily-pick-carnival-cruise-lines-virtual-book-of-dreams-contest/

The finalists have been selected and now you can be the judge as to whom will be the  world’s first-ever cruise ship waterslide Godchild. Voting polls will be open until October 4, 2009, to later announce the winner on October 12, 2009.

Carnival is making a $1 donation for every dollar received to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital up to a maximum contribution of $25,000.  St. Jude is one of the world’s premier centers for the research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other catastrophic diseases.

The contest invited children between the ages of 7 and 12 to share their awesome dreams in a short essay and accompanying hand-drawn illustration for a chance to become “The waterslide Godchild”. The winner and family will travel to New York City to christen the spectacular Carnival WaterWorks aqua park on the new Carnival Dream in November and also receive a free cruise.http://www.tripharbour.ca/commodoredave/cat-304

The five finalists include four chosen by a panel of judges and one chosen via public voting.  The finalists are: “Dream Viewing Invention” submitted by Alice, age 10, Pleasant Hill, CA; “Going to the Moon for Vacation” submitted by Amanda, age 10, from Bridgeport, PA; “My Famous Pancake” submitted by Alyssa, age 9, from Napa, CA; “Sending My Dreams to Iraq” submitted by Emily, age 8, from Holly Springs, NC; and “Wake Me When We Leave” submitted by Hailee, age 9, from Egg Harbor Township, NJ.  Voting is open to the public and currently underway at www.carnivalbookofdreams.com.

A wonderful way for children to experience the launching of a new Carnival ship while at the same time benefitting kids in need.

Information on the new Carnival Dream, which made its European debut last week, is available at www.carnival.com/dream.
